MCI Championship comes to town on 5th/6th May

On the 5th/6th May the South East Motocross Club will host the second round of the 2012 MCI Southern Centre Motocross Championship. Saturday will see the youth riders on the track before the adults get their turn on Sunday.
An excellent weekend of racing can be expected. As it is the May bank holiday why not make a weekend of it and see all the south east of the country has to offer! Full race details and entry forms are available from the link on the left hand side of the page.

Final Round of Grasstrack Championship

After failing to receive a sufficient number of entries to make the Grasstrack viable the club has now cancelled the event due to a lack of interest. Those who have entered will have their payments refunded or cancelled.

Irish Motocross Championship in Ferns

Sunday, 15th May sees round 3 of the MCUI / G&G Ross Irish National Motocross Championship come to Ferns Motocross Park. Our historic County Wexford town is no stranger to hosting top class motocross action with the National Series regularly stopping off here.
The field will include British Championship riders, championship regulars and local riders which should make this race one of the most exciting events of the year.
In the Premier MX1 class, where riders compete on 450cc four-stroke machines, it’s the Antrim pairing of Wayne Garrett and Tommy Merton setting the pace. Garrett has been very hard to beat on his KTM 450 but Kawasaki’s Merton has the experience needed for a championship fight. The local challenge in the MX1 class will come in the form of Mervyn Griffin who has found form following a switch to his favoured Honda machinery.
The Premier MX2 class, where riders have a little less displacement on 250cc machines, has another Northern Irish rider leading the series in the form of Jason Garrett. Unfortunately Jason had a freak crash last week resulting in a broken wrist and a broken bone in his neck. This will count the Lisburn man out of Ferns but two local riders looking to capitalise are Michael Mahon and Jim O’Neill who lie in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Brittas based Mahon and Camolin’s O’Neill are both riding for the VMX KTM team and both are very familiar with the Ferns circuit so expect tight racing.
2011 is turning out to be a fantastic year for motocross fans. It’s hard to recall the last time there were as many riders on the start line with the potential of winning.
Racing will start at 11.30am Sunday morning; the track is signposted for the main street (N11) in Ferns. Admission is only €5 with children under 12 getting in free. A map providing details on the venue is available under the “Track Location” tab above.

Easter Open Motocross

This weekend sees the return of racing action to Ferns. Youths on Saturday, 23rd April and Adults on Sun, 24th April (details and entry forms on the left). The track is in great condition, fully prepped for racing.

March Practice

Our March Practice Day turned out to be a great day by all accounts. A well groomed track and ideal weather conditions made for a fun day. All groups got 5 long sessions so everybody was nicely tired going home! Also we’d like to extend a warm welcome to all newcomers.

Up next will be our Easter Open Racing Weekend; Youths on Saturday, 23rd April, Adults on Sunday, 24th April so keep those dates free in your diaries. Further details and entry forms will be available very soon.

Upcoming Practice Dates 2011

The club will hold its first Practice Days of 2011 in the coming weeks with the first on Sunday, 23rd January followed two weeks later on the 6th February. All newcomers very welcome. Both events will be weather permitting and any changes that occur will be posted here immediately.
